Year 4 Open Afternoon
This November Year 4 invited parents into the classroom to show them the work the children have been doing on our topic 'I am Warrior' We displayed our green screen videos showing the children taking roles as commentators for gladiator battles and interviews where the children became gladiators themselves.
Then the children turned the tables on their parents with a Romans and Celts Quiz. Parents who answered correctly earned a token for their child's house team. Finally pupils showed their topic books to their parents and showed them our fantastic display of Celtic and Roman shields which was completed as a homework task. A fun time was had by all and we look forward to holding a similar afternoon next year.
Roman & Celtic Shields
A massive thank you to all the parents who helped their children make fantastic Celtic and Roman shields! The response that we had to the home school task was excellent and the children really enjoyed sharing their finished shields with the rest of the class. The shields will be displayed in our open afternoon later this month.
Happy Halloween from Year 4!

Turnip Starfish!
At the end of May 2015 animation company Turnip Starfish came in to work with Year 4 on a special project. In conjunction with the RCT Black Gold project the children made animations to contribute towards a short film on the Welsh coal mining industry. Over the course of two days the children designed their own characters and put them into a film using computer animation technology.

- Miners Strike
- In KS2 this term we have been looking at the miners’ strike of 1984.
- This topic has allowed us to delve into the colourful past of our local area. We have received a fantastic visit from former Maerdy miners
- Ivor England and Mike Richards. In addition we visited the Rhondda Heritage Park and took a long walk up to the site where the Maerdy colliery once stood. In class all our children have been working hard learning new information on the mining strike through the LNF.
Rhondda Heritage Park
Year 4 and Miss Bradbury’s class visited the Rhondda Heritage Park
this term. The 40 minute underground experience was thoroughly
enjoyed by all the children. We learnt all about the challenges
miners would face, the equipment they used and the bonds they
shared with each other. The children went down the mine shaft and
took a tour around the mine, at one point the lights went off which
prompted one or two screams (and not just from the girls ) At the end
of the tour some of our children held some coal and as you can by
some of their faces, it’s very dusty business!
